Santos Cartier Collection
Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumot made history in 1906 by becoming the first man to achieve powered flight without support from a launch device. Two years later, he produced the Demoiselle, the first commercially available aircraft. A friend of Louis Cartier, he wore the first wristwatch under his name, which is titled the first pilot’s watch, and the first wristwatch designed for men.
In 1911, the Cartier Santos went on the market, being promoted as the elegant “tool watch” of its time. It drew more audiences when it was made available in bicolor and steel models in the 1970s. The design is one of the most recognizable in the industry and is a trailblazer in the horological industry.
2018 is the year Cartier has chosen to celebrate Santos-Dumont by introducing two new steel-cased models: one automatic available in two sizes, and the other a manual-wound version in larger size.
