Omega Watch Speedmaster Silver Snoopy 50th Anniversary
Omega Snoopy 50th Anniversary Watch
Omega Watches received the prestigious ‘Silver Snoopy Award’ in 1970 from the astronauts at NASA. This prize was given in recognition to Omega’s unique contribution towards space exploration. It should be noted that the Speedmaster played a role in saving Apollo 13. It has been 50 years now and this special occasion is celebrated through a special timepiece in its honour. In order to capture the iconic design history of this time piece, Omega has used a 42 mm casing in stainless steel which is inspired by the chronograph’s 4th generation style which is the first watch which had been worn in the moon.
NASA had chosen Snoopy as its mascot in the 1960’s to personify it as a safety watchdog in NASA’s space flight missions. This watch takes a blue colour with blue in its bezel, markers and hands and even the strap being blue. The mascot Snoopy is found in the small seconds sub-dial and the watch has a decorated caseback.
The iconic quote ‘Eyes on the Stars’ is included in the black universe watch caseback and the caseback is no ordinary with an animation of the moon, earth and Snoopy himself. This Silver Snoopy model is not a limited edition.
This Omega watch is a master piece which combines animation with watchmaking art to give an exceptional style which can be admired for its in-depth of detail. The silver coloured dial is laser engraved with Ag925 and it has 3 more blue sub-dials. The subdial at 9 o’clock has the mascot Snoopy embossed with a silver medallion with ‘50th anniversary’ on it. This denotes the same way how NASA awards its recipients and is a direct homage to it. This watch is a fitting tribute and is also a playful insignia which is a representation of the award itself.
