Hublot and Daniel Arsham Partnership Produces New Pocket Watch

In a collaboration that merges contemporary art with horological craftsmanship, Hublot and New York-based artist Daniel Arsham have unveiled a groundbreaking pocket watch, the Hublot x Daniel Arsham Droplet. Known for his unique artistic partnerships with brands like Moet & Chandon, Pokémon, Tiffany, Hot Wheels, and Adidas, Arsham now adds Hublot to his impressive roster.

Droplet Pocket Watch

The Droplet pocket watch is a striking departure from traditional designs, echoing the revival of shaped wristwatches that have gained popularity in recent years. Shaped like a large, freeform teardrop, this watch transcends conventional timepieces with its innovative design and multifunctionality. It features two titanium chains, enabling it to be worn either as a pocket watch or as a pendant. Additionally, it includes a decorative stand that transforms it into an elegant table clock.

Signature Design

The watch case showcases a fusion of materials, a signature approach for both Hublot and Arsham. Made from microblasted titanium, the case is sandwiched between two sapphire crystals that form the teardrop shape, with the outer edge reinforced by rubber bumpers. These bumpers not only protect the case but also feature the Arsham monogram. The hands, index ring, and markers are finished in Arsham green, which also adorns parts of the glass stand.

One of the standout features of the Droplet pocket watch is its lower end, punctuated with bubble-shaped cutouts. These cutouts not only enhance the teardrop motif but also reveal the dials and wheels of the movement. The ergonomic design ensures that the watch is comfortable to hold, measuring 73.2 mm in length, 52.6 mm in width, and 22.5 mm in thickness.

A Stunning Desk Clock

When placed on its stand, the pocket watch transforms into a stunning desk clock, serving as both a functional timepiece and an art object. The mineral glass stand, designed by Arsham, doubles as a 150x magnifier, enhancing the dial’s legibility from a distance. “We had to do a series of calculations in order to place the loupe at just the right distance from the pocket watch, as well as to determine the right curvature and size of the loupe,” a Hublot spokesman explained to Robb Report. This meticulous attention to detail ensures that the stand is balanced and stable, with each element precisely calculated for optimal weight and geometry.
